Drawing Risky Play
Ruth Beale
What's important about risky play? What are the ingredients? What does it feel like in your body? The drawings in this book illustrate a process of doing, exploring, thinking, and of tackling questions together. They document action-research by ten children, Aoife, Daniel, Gulliver, Josh, Kalina, Leo, Maeve, Noah, Yazid and Zanzi, led by artist Ruth Beale, with two South London organisations at the forefront of progressive approaches to self-directed learning and play: The New School and The Triangle Adventure Playground.
Ruth Beale is a London-based artist who works collectively and collaboratively, exploring the way culture, governance and social discourse create society. Their practice includes socially-engaged processes, as well as drawing, performance, film and installations.
